LAY EDUCATION OFFICER
St Francis Theological College
This is a new three-year full-time position commencing early 2014. It is designed to build upon and extend the impact of the BIBLE360 program within the Diocese and nationally, as well as developing a broader set of programs to enrich the faith education of the people of God in the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane. The position requires a person with initiative and vision, strong theological and educational qualifications, skills to facilitate the training and development of others, and a good working knowledge of current digital communication strategies.

New lecturer at SFC
St Francis Theological College in Brisbane has announced that the Rev’d Dr Cathy Thomson will be the Director of Formation and Lecturer in Theology at SFC, commencing January 2014. She is currently the Rector of Christ Church, St Lucia. Cathy has a PhD in Systematic Theology. She has been a sessional lecturer at St. Francis since 2009. Currently, Cathy is a member of Diocesan Council in Brisbane as well as the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Australia. She also serves on the Faith and Unity Commission of the National Council of Churches, the Executive of Queensland Churches Together, and the Ecumenical Affairs Committee of the Anglican Church of Australia. In December this year, Dr Thomson will conclude a nine year term on the Anglican/Lutheran International Commission.
New Principal for BST
Brisbane School of Theology (BST) is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev Dr Richard Gibson to the position of college Principal, commencing on 1 July 2014. Dr Gibson will be taking over the position previously held by Dr Johan Ferreira who stepped down from the role on 28 June 2013. Dr Gibson brings 20 years of theological teaching experience, lecturing at Moore Theological College (NSW) in New Testament Greek, New Testament and Early and Reformation Church History. Ordained in 1990 by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, the Rev Dr Gibson holds a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Theology, Bachelor of Theology, Diploma of Arts in Theology, and a Bachelor of Social Work. He served as Chairman of the College of Preachers (Sydney Diocese) from 2003 to 2009. [Full story …]
The Question of Nature
The Australian Academy of Humanities’ 2013 Symposium will be hosted by the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies,The University of Queensland. The symposium will explore the ways in which the humanities are vital to understanding the way communities deal with environmental change. The event will feature 14 speakers and panelists, including Professor Iain McCalman whose award-winning work Darwin’s Armada (Penguin, 2009) was the basis of the TV series, Darwin’s Brave New World. Call for Papers: Society of Asian Biblical Studies
The 2014 meeting of the Society of Asian Biblical Studies will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 23 to 25 June. One of the principal objectives of SABS is to foster biblical scholarship and research in Asia that takes seriously the Asian context—its cultures, religions and methodologies. It is therefore imperative that papers presented at this meeting are attempts to understand the Bible from varied Asian perspectives. Proposals for papers that deal with our theme of Violence in the Human and Earth Community – Asian Biblical Response will be especially welcome.

This highly-regarded Bile software program has previously only been available in a Mac version, including mobile versions for iPhone and iPad in the last few years.
