2016 Theology & Philosophy Conference Call for Papers

The Mediated Life Conference 3-4 November Laidlaw College

Laidlaw College Call for papers – Conference on The Mediated Life 3-4 November

Our world has been described as one in which we are constantly “wrapped in media” and “colonised by technology”. Whether that is in relation to mass media, popular culture, the Internet and new media, teaching technologies, media artifacts, and the mediation of human relationships, we cannot avoid the impact that media and mediation have upon our individual and communal lives.  Laidlaw College are organizing a conference to discuss this.

Proposals comprising a 150 word abstract and 100 word bio should be sent to theology@laidlaw.ac.nz by 15 July 2016.

We will be publishing an edition of the journal Stimulus on the conference theme in 2017, and we would warmly invite conference presentations to be subsequently considered for that edition (www.laidlaw.ac.nz/stimulus).

A related series of workshops for church leaders applying these themes to issues of faith and life is planned to follow on Saturday 5 November, in partnership with Equippers College.

For general enquiries and proposal submissions please contact:
Christina Partridge (theology@laidlaw.ac.nz)

David Benson ““Re-imagining education as a journey toward shalom”

You are invited to the next UQ Studies in Religion Research Seminar

Presenter: Dr David Benson Date: Friday 24 June Time: 2pm
Venue: Room E319 in the Forgan Smith Building, UQ. St Lucia

What is education for? Is there a sufficiently inclusive and encompassing Christian vision of education for all citizens in our simultaneously secular and
religious pluralistic democracy? In this seminar, Dave suggests a potentially unifying metaphor capable of sparking our imagination and serving our neighbour.
We adopt a narrative theological stance to direct our educational efforts toward serving the key dimensions of shalom that together comprise humanity’s
educational journey of growth under divine tutelage. “God’s Curriculum” helps us reimagine Christian education as a pilgrimage, where diverse learners are
drawn forward by desire as together they walk toward the promised garden-city of peace.
